A Little About Maleeha
Dear Neighbour:
I am proud to serve as your Regional Councillor for East Ward 4 Whitby and to have previously served as Whitby’s Deputy Mayor in 2023.
I was first elected in 2018 as East Ward Councillor. In 2022, I was re-elected as your Regional Councillor, and since then, I have remained focused on delivering results that matter to our community.
East Ward has been my home for over 15 years. My children have grown up in this community. I understand the everyday realities our residents face because I live them too, from the rising cost of living and the pressures of growth to concerns around community safety, traffic congestion, and finding a family doctor.
Throughout my time on Council, I have advocated for responsible spending, keeping property tax increases down and in line while protecting the services residents rely on. I have remained focused on community safety, improved healthcare access, responsible growth, and local economic development. I have also supported efforts to bring jobs and investment to Whitby, including along Hopkins Street, while continuing to push for infrastructure and services that keep pace with our growing community.
I am also a Harvard-certified leadership coach, TEDx speaker, author, and graduate of Western University’s Local Government Program. Alongside my work in government, I have been involved in advocacy related to mental health, domestic violence awareness, senior safety, and inclusion in leadership and decision-making.
I currently serve on several boards and committees, including:
Durham Region Community Growth and Economic Development Committee
Durham Environment and Climate Advisory Committee
Durham Transit Commission
Durham Anti-Racism Taskforce
Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) Board as Durham’s representative.
I have also served as:
Deputy Mayor (2023)
Vice Chair of General Government
Mayor’s designate on the Accessibility Advisory Committee (2024–2025)
Mayor’s designate on the Active Transportation Advisory Committee
(2024–2025)Mayor’s designate on the Whitby Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee (2023)
Mayor’s designate on the Station Gallery Board (2026)
Most importantly, I am a mother of three, and my leadership is grounded in accountability, compassion, and a deeply commitment to the community I call home.
